Growing up with grandparents from rural Sardinia, I was sensitised at a young age to the vast differences in lifestyle and worldview that came with inheriting two cultures. Donkeys pulling carts, milking goats, and festivals straight out of a fantasy novel featured regularly in the stories that my Nonno and Nonna told me.
